TRIP users have been calling to ask about the new RTD ads on the light rail lines. The ads show the new RTD prices for 2009. These ads refer to a 50% discount this is NOT the TRIP discount. We believe the ad is referencing RTD's discounted fares, which apply to all seniors 65+, individuals with disabilities, Medicare recipients and students in elementary, middle and high school, ages 6-19. Provide proof of eligibility when boarding. For seniors or individuals with disabilites, a Special Discount Card may be obtained by calling 303.299.2667.

TRIP To Work: RTD will provide free rides on all RTD services from 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve until 6 a.m. New Year’s Day

Denver – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) once again wants to be your designated driver offering free rides on all bus and light rail service, as well as access-a-Ride and skyRide service on New Year’s Eve. This year, RTD has partnered with CDOT and MillerCoors to make sure everyone has a safe holiday. Plan your New Year’s Eve trip ahead of time by visiting RTD-Denver.com or CDOT’s PlanAheadColorado.com for details on taxi vouchers.

The transit agency has offered this free fare program for the past eighteen years to encourage celebrants and non-celebrants alike to use a safer, more reliable mode of transportation rather than driving their own cars. Note that RTD is not offering more service or additional routes, but all of the regularly scheduled service will be free of charge.

All regularly scheduled bus and light rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday December 31 and will be free from 7:00 p.m. until 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1, 2008. Service will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on New Year’s Day, and a normal weekday schedule the following day.

RTD recommends that riders plan ahead by getting schedule information from RTD’s web site at www.RTD-Denver.com.or from RTD’s Telephone Information Center at 303.299.6000 (open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day). Call 303.299.6089 for the speech and hearing impaired.

TRIP TO WORK: New TRIP rates

The South I-25 Urban Corridor Transportation Management Association has decided to offer the Transit Rider Incentive Program (TRIP) in 2009. TRIP 2009 has slight modifications from TRIP 2008. The main change will be a reduction in the subsidy offered from 50% in 2008 to 35% in 2009.

On January 1, 2009, RTD is raising fares. Due to this increase and the high demand for TRIP passes, the TRIP program will reduce its rate on regular monthly transit passes from a 50% subsidy to a 35% subsidy. Transit passes include access to RTD light rail, bus, and call-n-Ride services. The fare for a local monthly pass through RTD will be $70; TRIP will offer the local passes for $45.50. The fare for an express monthly pass through RTD will be $128; TRIP will offer express passes for $83.20. Finally, the fare for a regional monthly pass through RTD will be $164; TRIP will offer regional passes for $106.60.

TRIP is the result of the South I-25 Urban Corridor Transportation Management Association’s efforts. This group is a coalition of local governments including the City of Lone Tree, City of Greenwood Village, City of Centennial, Arapahoe County, Douglas County, the Southeast Public Improvement Metropolitan District (SPIMD), and the business community represented by the Southeast Business Partnership (SEBP). TRIP passes are available to eligible employees working in the South I-25 Urban Corridor.
